The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a driver working with a hotel in Victoria Island of Lagos State for allegedly masterminding the kidnap of his boss’s brother-in-law and his lover to raise money for his father-in-law’s burial billed for November.
The suspect, Williams Olowoloju was arrested alongside two other suspected members of the gang, Ayo Akinola and Sehun Teluwo for allegedly kidnapping one Hilary Chukwu Dumebi and his lover, Rebecca Omokan, on October 21, at Plot 2, Block 7 Elegba Festival Drive Oniru, Victoria Island.
During interrogation with the Police, it was gathered that the hoodlums had demanded N20 million from the relatives, informing them that they were hired to assassinate the victim for N15 million but would release him if the ransom is paid.
The mastermind, Williams said he had approached his boss for a loan of N100, 000 but was told there was no money, so he discussed with his friend Ayo Akinola who suggested that they should kidnap his boss relatives and get more than the amount he was looking for.
Williams explained that he was asked to pay N180, 000 for his father-in-law’s burial rite, this prompted him to go ask his boss for the loan and when his subsequent turned by his boss he decided to plot the kidnap of his boss’s brother- inlaw.
Confirming the arrest, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi said the suspects were trailed to Agod Alara-Ogijo in Ogun State were the victims were rescued unhurt and their vehicle also recovered from the suspects.
The CP said one locally-made shotgun, one knife, nylon cellotape and two ATM cards were recovered from the suspects. He said preliminary investigations shows that one of the suspects was a driver to the victim sister, adding that they would be charged to court on completion of investigation.
