The Police in Enugu State on Tuesday said they have killed two alleged notorious armed robbery kingpins who have been terrorising motorists on the Obolloafor-Markurdi Expressway.
In a statement issued by the Command spokesman, SP Ebere Amaraizu, the robbers met their waterloo around 3.50am on Tuesday as they were robbing a mini bus along the expressway at Amalla in the Udenu Local Government Area of the State.
The statement reads thus, “It was gathered that the deceased hoodlums, with their gang members blocked the road with drums and were robbing passengers of a Sharon minibus, with number plate 804 XQ, when Police operatives from the Enugu State Command, acting on a distress call swooped on them and in the ensuing gun duel, two of the hoodlums were gunned down, while other members of the gang believed to have been hit by the operatives’ bullets, escaped into the bush,”
Exhibits recovered from the suspects according to the PPRO includes guns, iron bar and machetes. He added that a manhunt for the fleeing members of the gang has been launched. He appealed to the members of the public, particularly hospital operators, to watch out for anyone with gunshot injuries.
