The FCT Police command in the early hours of yesterday 8th August, 2017 prevented what would have resulted to a total breakdown of law and order and disturbance of public peace in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja by dispersing some hoodlums and other criminal elements who infiltrated the mixt   of the concerned Nigerians groups protesting under the auspices of Our-Mumu-Don-do Movement at Unity Fountain, Maitama, Abuja.

According to the press release signed by DSP Anjuguri Manzah, the Public Relations Officer of the Command, some hoodlums and other unruly individuals who infiltrated the mixt of protesters started causing trouble by blocking the major roads adjoining the Unity fountain, obstructing traffic and preventing movements of other innocent citizens who were going about their law business while the protest was ongoing.

DSP Manazah stated that the unruly behaviours and other violent acts of the hoodlums was likely to cause total breakdown of law and order and disturbance of public peace hence the Police personnel intervened and prevented the hoodlums and other criminal elements from hijacking the protest when it was obvious that the concerned Nigerians Group had lost control of the crowd.

Reiterating the Police Command standpoint, the spokesman added that the FCT Police command is fully aware and recognizes the constitutional rights of every citizen including that of “Our Mumu Dondo group” to assemble and move freely in any part of the Federal Capital Territory, but maintained that the command will not allow any protest under any guise of freedom of assemblage or movement to cause violence or jeopardise the prevailing peace, law and order currently being enjoyed in the FCT.

The command therefore assured all residents and visitors to the Federal Capital Territory of adequate security and protection of lives and property of everyone including those who choose to express their constitutional rights of protest with decorum. The PPRO, thus cautioned members of the public, parents, guardians and religious/opinion leaders as well as other interest groups to prevail on their children and wards, followers and adherents not to allow themselves to be used by any group to cause disturbance of public peace and break down of law and order.
