Operatives of the Inspector General of Police, Intelligence Response Team, have arrested six suspected kidnappers and rescued a 76 years old victim, one Benjamin Okoye in Okpukwu Umuobo Area of Aba, Abia State.
The victim, Elder Benjamin was abducted by the hoodlums on December 15, 2017, where his abductors demanded a ransom of N80 million. Upon receipt of the information of kidnap of the victim, the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, deployed the IRT team who swung into action and arrested two suspects in Aba town. In a combined effort of the IRT team and police personnel of the Abia Command the hideout of the hoodlums a three bedroom house was raided and the victim rescued unhurt while four suspects were arrested with bullet wounds while trying to escape.
Suspects arrested include; Chinonye Anoro, 26, Prince Sylvester, 35, (driver), Kinsley Papa, 45, Ugbonabo Danjuma, 43, (Gang leader), Moses Clever, 31, and Ogoro James, 26.
The commander of the IRT team, ACP Abah Kyari said all the suspects have confessed to several kidnappings incidents within Aba and other parts of Abia State, adding that four out of the six kidnappers arrested also confessed that they formed their gang from prison and recruited others when they came out of the prison October this year.
Items recovered from the suspects includes, 2 Ak 47 rifles, 6 magazines loaded with 180 rounds of live ammunition and the operational vehicle, a Golf salon car. Police said serious efforts are on to arrest the remaining gang members.
