The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Muazu Zabairu said the Command has arrested a six-man gang of suspected armed robbers whose focus is on robbing innocent road users and commuters.
Briefing journalist at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja, the CP said the suspects were arrested following information by a reliable source about their activities of the hoodlums..
According to him, the suspects were nabbed by the operatives of the Command at Abaranje area of Ikotun, Lagos State based on information on January 13.
Suspects arrested according to the CP include, Toyin Adewale, Olakunle Akerele a.k.a. ‘Poly’, Nurudeen Akorede a.k.a ‘Sypon’, Oluwaseun Makinde, Tunde Yussuf a.k.a ‘Door’ and Bankole Mohammed, a.k.a ‘Hunter’.
He explained that Toyin Adewale, who was first arrested led the Police to the arrest of other members of the gang adding that they have confessed to have specialised in traffic robbery known as ‘one chance’ and stealing of motorcycles from unguarded riders.
“The lead suspect, Adewale during interrogation confessed to belonging to an armed robbery gang that has been terrorizing parts of the State for a while. Adewale’s confession led to the arrest of other members of the gang.” The CP said.
Items recovered from the suspects include one double barrel locally made gun, one single barrel gun and seven cartridges were recovered from them.
The State Police boss added that investigation is ongoing with the view of attesting to other fleeing members of the gang.
