ACP Aboyomi Shogunle, head of the PCRRU of the Nigeria Police Force, says the Unit received a total of 589 complaints representing 90 per cent of the 657 complaints across the country in second quarter (Q2) of 2017.
In the 2nd quarter report released on Monday indicated that Six Police officers were dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force in the second quarter of 2017 under review, while a total sum of N265,000, money extorted by the erring Police officers were recovered and handed over to the rightful owners.
The 2nd quarter report signed by ACP AbayomiShogunle indicated that complainants were satisfied with the outcome arrived at by the PCRRU on their cases, noting that during the period under review, two traffic wardens were found guilty of extortion in Abuja with four other Police officers found guilty of extortion in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State. All six officers have been summarily dismissed from the Force.
According to ACP Abayomi, the dismissal of the Policemen is in line with keeping to the words of IGP Ibrahim Idris to flush out unethical officers from the NPF.In the said report, ACP Shogunle noted that the unit recorded only 457 cases, which is 17 per cent reduction in number of complaint in 2017 Q2 compared with 2016 Q2 with 906 complaints.
Regarding the sources of complaints, he said the highest number of processed complaints came through telephone calls (454 cases) representing 69 per cent of the complaints received, While WhatsApp, SMS, BBM, Twitter, Facebook, Email jointly accounted for the remainingnumber cases received by the Unit.
ACP Aboyomi Shongule added that Lagos, Rivers, and FCT top the States with the highest complaints, recording 137, 89, and 82 respectively, while Gombe, Jigawa, Katsina, and Yobe States recorded no complaints from members of the public.
