The Police Sergeant, Williams Godwin who was alleged to have been involved in a robbery incident along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway was a victim of robbery, attack the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi said on Monday.
The State Police boss while addressing journalist at the State headquarters, Ikeja, said the Sergeant was robbed at gun point by gunmen at Ogba area of the State where his ID card, phone and N4, 500 stolen from him during the incident. Imohimi said the hoodlums operated with a Toyota Camry.
“He was fast enough to note the number plate of their vehicle, EPE 813-BX, which was taken to the motor licensing office for discreet investigation. One of the principal suspects, Kola Bakare, 31, was arrested.
“The suspect confessed to have driven the said Camry and participated in the robbery. The suspect has been identified by the victim and the gang’s operational vehicle, a Camry with Reg No. EPE 813-BX has been recovered”, the CP added.
The Commissioner said manhunt have been launched for the rest fleeing members of the gang. Speaking with journalist, Sergeant Godwin said the suspects bailed him up with a gun on the October 18 and disposes him of his belongings.
Meanwhile, the suspect, Bakare said he was innocent of the crime, explaining that he made his confession to the Police under duress, stating that he started using the Camry for taxi business a few weeks back after losing his shop to a demolition exercise by the State government.
