Six suspected assassins allegedly hired to murder Senator Dino Melaye by Hon. Taofiq Isah, Chairman Ijumu Local Government of Kogi State have been arrested by operatives of the Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris Special Tactical Squad (STS).
According to press release signed by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) CSP Jimoh Moshood, the suspects were arrested after a painstaking and sustained surveillance following the directives of the IGP to the Squad unravel those behind the failed attempt on Senator Malay’s life.
The FPRO said TaofiqIsah, Chairman Ijumu LGA Kogi state is the mastermind of the attempted assassination of Senator Dino Melaye. The said Chairman was alleged to have directed his Personal Assistance, one Abdulmumini a.k.a Iron now at large to recruit members of the vicious and notorious assassins to kill the Senator in his Ayetoro Gbede country home.
CSP Jimoh stated that the clue that led the Police to on ravel those behind the attempted assassination of Senator Dino Malaye was volunteered by Ade Obage 29 who claimed he was contacted to join the gang hired to kill Senator Deno Malaye by Abdullahi Eko a principal suspect in the allegedassassination saga. Suspect Obage was said to have inform the Police of their nefarious attempt on theSenator’s life after their their failed attempt.
It was consequent upon the self admission of the crime by Obage that the IGP Special Tactical Squad arrested Abdullahi a.k.a Eko a native of Adavi town in Adavi LGA of Kogi State who alsoallegedlyconfessed and admitted to the criminal roles he played along with the other suspects in the killer squad.
Along with those arrested is Ex-Sgt Ede James, the Police Orderly to Taofiq Isah, Chairman of Ijumu LGA Kogi State. The Police orderly who has been summarily dismissed from the Police by Inspector General of Police, played a fundamental role in the assassination attempt. It was the Orderly’s phone that was used for communication, planning and execution of the failed assassination. The Statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer says the Ex.Sgt James has serious criminal association with Abdullahi a.k.a Eko, an active member of the killer gang of the Local Government Chairman.
Ahmed Ajayi and Michael Bamidele both local security men at the residence of Taofiq Isah a principal suspect were among those arrested with prohibited locally made two barrel shot guns found in their possessions.
Exhibits recovered from the suspects include;
- 1 Ambulance Hyundai Bus
- 5 AK 47 rifles,
- 1Berreta pistol,
- 2 locally made single barrel shot guns,
- 20 expended shells of 7.62 mm ammunition,
- 13 expended shells of 9mm ammunition, and
- 12 expended shells gauge cartridge
The Force spokesperson said, investigation is being intensified to arrest other suspects at large, adding that all suspects will be arraigned in court on completion of investigation.
