Operatives of the Intelligence Response Team of the Inspector General of Police have arrested seven suspected kidnappers in Port Harcourt who abducted and killed the Production Manager of Niger Delta Petroleum Resources Limited, one Mr. Ubani Onyeama, 64 and also collected N10million ransom from the victims family.
According to the Police source, the victim, the Ubani Onyema 64yrs was abducted by unknown gun men in Woji, Port Harcourt City of Rivers State on November 16, 2017.
The source said a ransom call was made to the Hostage’s company demanding 100 million Naira, which was eventually negotiated down to N10 million and was paid to the Kidnappers, having notified the IGP, of the incident, Operatives of the IRT deployed to Port Harcourt by IGP Ibrahim Idris, swung into immediate action as the hostage was not released after the ransom had been paid as negotiated and agreed to the kidnappers.
According to the Commander IRT, ACP Abba Kyari the unrelenting trail of the suspects led to the arrest of the seven kidnappers who confessed to the various roles played by each person in the kidnap gang. The suspects were said to have also admitted that the hostage was killed on the very day of his kidnap as a result of gunshot wounds he sustained during the kidnapping.
Suspects arrested includes; Nduka Alaribe, AKA Abiola ‘m’ 34 Gang Leader, who organized the kidnap, recruited the hostage keepers, brought the two cars used for the kidnap, led gang members to pick up the ransom, Godstime Eme ‘m’ 35, the second in command, a university graduate, he purchased the pre-registered sim which he used in negotiating for ransom and picked up the ransom, while also monitoring the movement of late Ubani Onyema on the day of his kidnap.
Others are, Nkere Uwam ‘m’ 38, the mastermind behind the kidnap, who also worked in the same company with the victim, Wisdom Uchechi Chidi ‘m’ 35, a notorious leader of Greenlanders cult terrorizing Ahoda-East LGA provided the arms used in the kidnap, Ayakazi Woyin-Kuro ‘m’ 32, assisted in the recruitment of gang members, Okpako Emperor ‘m’ 37 also worked in the company was part of the plot to kidnap Ubani, and Adimibe Kanayo ‘m’ 30 also worked in the company was part of the plot to kidnap Ubani.
Items recovered from the suspects includes one AK47 rifle and the two vehicles used in the kidnap, adding that effort is ongoing to arrest other fleeing gang members, recovering remaining arms and the body of the victim which they confessed to have dropped into the River.
