Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has warned newly inaugurated local government chairmen that they risk losing their positions if the All Progressives Congress (APC) fails to win their respective council areas in the 2027 general elections.
Nwifuru issued the warning on Tuesday in Abakaliki while inaugurating chairmen and vice chairmen for the state’s 13 local government areas.
A video of the governor making the remarks at the event has since circulated widely on social media.
The governor told the council chairmen that their positions could be affected if they failed to deliver victory for the APC in their respective areas.
According to him, the party would not tolerate a situation where an incumbent chairman fails to secure electoral support for the ruling party in his local government.
Nwifuru said he was making his position clear rather than concealing his expectations ahead of the 2027 elections.
He further warned that the chairmen could be replaced through their councillors if they failed to produce the expected result for the APC.
The governor urged the newly inaugurated officials to ensure that opposition parties do not gain control of their respective council areas, stressing that they must first demonstrate their political strength at home.
Nwifuru, who was elected governor of Ebonyi State in 2023 on the APC platform, is seeking a second term in office at the 2027 election.
His current four-year tenure is expected to end on May 29, 2027.
