The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has refused to accept Saturday’s governorship election as the final chapter, saying it is examining the results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before deciding whether to challenge the outcome in court.

The party said it would consult its lawyers and explore every legal avenue available if its review establishes that irregularities occurred during the election.

The APC disclosed this in a statement issued in Osogbo on Sunday by its spokesperson, Kola Olabisi.

Olabisi argued that the conclusion of an election goes beyond the announcement of results, noting that parties have the constitutional right to seek judicial intervention where they believe the electoral process was compromised.

He said the party was currently analysing the results and would rely on the advice of its legal team before taking a final decision on litigation.

The APC also praised its supporters for their commitment throughout the election, urging them to remain calm and law-abiding while the party determines its next step.

It further called on its members to ignore any provocation from supporters of the ruling party and continue with their normal activities.

The party also appealed to the Nigeria Police Force to ensure the safety of its members and supporters, alleging that some of them had faced harassment since the election.

The APC maintained that the political situation in Osun was not yet settled and expressed confidence that any genuine grievances would receive justice through the appropriate legal channels.

The party’s position followed INEC’s declaration of the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, as the winner of the election.

Adeleke secured 511,067 votes, defeating the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who recorded 444,815 votes.

Despite the declaration, the APC said it would first complete its assessment of the election before deciding whether to accept the result or challenge it legally.
