The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured a clean sweep in the Ebonyi State local government elections, winning all the 13 chairmanship positions and 171 wards contested across the state.
The results were announced on Sunday by the Chairman of the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC), Enyi Patrick.
According to the electoral body, the ruling party emerged victorious in every local government area and ward where elections were held on Saturday.
Patrick described the exercise as peaceful, saying there were no major incidents capable of disrupting the process across the state.
The election also attracted significant voter participation, with residents turning out across the state’s 13 local government areas and 171 electoral wards to cast their ballots.
Governor Francis Nwifuru commended the conduct of the poll, praising the electoral commission, voters and other stakeholders for what he described as a peaceful exercise.
Nwifuru, who voted at Edupfu Okemini Polling Unit 002 in Oferekpe Agbaja, Izzi Local Government Area, also lauded EBSIEC for maintaining order and ensuring that the voting process proceeded smoothly.
Other political stakeholders and prominent figures in the state equally praised the turnout of voters and the overall conduct of the election.
With the announcement of the results, the APC has retained control of all the local government councils contested in the Ebonyi State poll.
