The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to the National President of Miyetti Allah Kauta Hore, Bello Bodejo, in the sum of N2 billion and two sureties in like sum.
Justice Inyang Ekwo in brief ruling ordered that One surety must be an Abuja resident with three years’ tax clearance, while the other must own landed property worth 2 billion naira and in Abuja, subject to verification by the court.
The judge also directed the defendant to surrender his international passport and barred him from travelling outside Nigeria without the court’s approval.
Justice Ekwo held that the offences are bailable and fixed October 5, 6 and 7 for the commencement of trial.
Bodejo, who pleaded not guilty to the charges, was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on allegations of unlawfully receiving large cash payments totalling about 2.63 million dollars from a former Accountant-General of Bauchi State, Sa’idu Abubakar, without processing the transactions through a financial institution as required under Nigeria’s money laundering laws.
The EFCC alleges that the transactions, carried out between 2022 and 2024, exceeded the legal cash transaction threshold and contravened the relevant provisions of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 and the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
