Cross River State Governor, Sen. Bassey Edet Otu, has described the Nigeria Police Force as one of the country’s most professional institutions, commending its continued transformation and commitment to excellence.
The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, made the remarks on Tuesday during the decoration ceremony of 13 Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) and 17 Commissioners of Police (CPs) at the Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Otu congratulated the newly promoted senior officers and welcomed the growing representation of women in the leadership hierarchy of the Force.
“It is great to see women also involved, one woman at least. We are making progress on that, and I hope to see more women involved in the Nigerian Police also,” he said.
He noted that although many Nigerians were unaware of the level of professionalism within the Force, the institution had continued to demonstrate competence in the discharge of its responsibilities.
“The Nigerian Police remains an evolving institution that I continue to be more and more proud of. A lot of people don’t know the depth of professionalism in our Police, but I want to assure all Nigerians that the Nigerian Police is a highly professional institution run by the most capable of Nigerians,” he stated.
Otu congratulated the newly decorated Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and wished them success as they assume their new responsibilities.
