The road was commissioned on Thursday at Amanyam as part of activities marking Akwa Ibom’s 39th anniversary.
Governor Eno said his government would continue to prioritise projects with direct benefits to the people, stressing that development should take precedence over political differences.
He said the administration’s projects were designed to improve living conditions across the state.
“Whatever developmental efforts that we are putting in place are tailored towards the overall benefit and improved living conditions of our people. We don’t play politics with the welfare of our citizenry,” he said.
The governor also revealed plans to execute more projects in Ikot Ekpene, including the Ikot Ekpene International Market, Compassionate Homes, Primary Health Centres and additional road infrastructure.
Eno praised the Ikot Ekpene Local Government Chairman, Aniefiok Nkom, for implementing projects targeted at improving the lives of residents.
He said similar initiatives by local government chairmen across Akwa Ibom demonstrated the positive impact of greater autonomy at the grassroots.
The Commissioner for Works, Eno Ibanga, said the newly commissioned road was constructed as a single carriageway measuring eight metres in width, with 12.95 kilometres of side drains.
According to him, the road has created a vital link between several communities, including Amanyam, Ifuho, Ibong, Ikot Udoe and Mbiaso.
Ibanga added that the project was carefully supervised throughout construction to ensure that it met the required standards and would remain durable.
In his remarks, Nkom thanked Governor Eno for the attention given to development in Ikot Ekpene, citing the International Market, hospital project and several access roads among the projects currently being executed.
“You have done so much in and for Ikot Ekpene. Currently, you have four projects to commission in Ikot Ekpene. I want to tell you that we are very happy with you,” Nkom said.
