The command also recovered 156 firearms and 1,486 rounds of ammunition during the period, as part of intensified efforts to tackle violent crime and other security threats.
The Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, disclosed the figures on Friday while receiving the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 13, Miller Dantawaye, who paid a working visit to the command in Enugu.
The command’s spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, made the development public in a statement issued on Saturday on behalf of the commissioner.
According to Giwa, the statistics cover the period since he assumed office as Enugu State Commissioner of Police on March 11, 2025.
He said the suspects detained included 158 persons linked to kidnapping, 186 suspected armed robbers, 188 murder suspects and 57 suspects arrested in connection with rape and defilement.
The command also detained 273 suspects over alleged cult-related activities and 63 others for unlawful possession of firearms.
A further 5,315 suspects were detained in connection with other offences, including stealing, breaking and vandalism.
Among the weapons recovered were 43 AK-47 rifles and one G-3 assault rifle, alongside other firearms.
Police operations during the period also resulted in the recovery of 209 vehicles and other vehicular exhibits, including cars, tricycles and motorcycles.
Giwa credited the results to sustained intelligence-driven operations, proactive policing and cooperation between the command and security agencies in neighbouring states.
He cited the deployment of the Violent Crime Response Unit, stronger border patrols through the Inspector-General of Police’s Handshake Patrol initiative, as well as enhanced emergency response through the Distress Response Squad and Command-and-Control Centre.
The commissioner called for additional support from the police zone, particularly in manpower, operational equipment and the welfare of personnel, saying such assistance would help the command build on its recent successes.
In his response, Dantawaye urged officers and men to maintain professionalism, discipline and accountability in the discharge of their duties.
He also reminded them to observe Force regulations, uphold ethical standards and respect the rights of citizens.
The AIG encouraged the personnel to remain committed to their constitutional duties and work towards strengthening public trust in the police.
He assured the command of his willingness to collaborate with its leadership and personnel in improving security across Enugu State.
