The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has honoured a retired Deputy Superintendent of Traffic, DST Anifa Bello Abiodun, with an Award of Recognition and cash support for her outstanding service to the Nigeria Police Force.

The recognition was presented to the retired officer at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the IGP commended Abiodun for her professionalism, discipline, resilience and dedication to traffic management during her years of service with the Ogun State Police Command, particularly in Abeokuta.

Throughout her career, Abiodun became known for her commitment to duty and consistent engagement with members of the public, earning the appreciation of residents and road users in the communities where she served.

Speaking during the presentation, Disu noted that members of the public tend to appreciate the Police when officers carry out their responsibilities professionally and responsibly.

He said public dissatisfaction was often associated with individual cases of misconduct rather than the institution itself, expressing satisfaction that the retired officer had earned the respect and goodwill of the community she served.

The IGP stressed the importance of recognising personnel who demonstrate professionalism, integrity and exemplary conduct, saying such recognition would reinforce the standards expected within the Nigeria Police Force and encourage other officers to distinguish themselves through dedicated service.

The Force said the recognition formed part of its commitment to promoting accountability, rewarding exemplary conduct and celebrating personnel whose dedication contributes to effective policing and strengthens public confidence.

Abiodun’s years of service in traffic management, particularly in Abeokuta, have also attracted public commendation, with accounts of her career describing her as a disciplined and committed officer who remained dedicated to her duties.

The recognition marks a further acknowledgement of her contribution to public service following her retirement from the Nigeria Police Force.
