The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended five suspected vandals and recovered a truck reportedly loaded with stolen iron rods in the Ibeju-Lekki area of the state.
The arrests were made during an operation aimed at disrupting the theft and destruction of critical infrastructure across Lagos.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday, August 22, 2026, and signed by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi.
The suspects were identified as Mohammed Shaibu, 26; Musa Zakari, 29; Abdullahi Bala, 22; Salisu Musa, 18; and Yahuza Bala, 20.
Police said the suspects were allegedly intercepted while removing iron poles intended for the construction of telecommunications masts and subsequently transporting the materials in a truck.
Following their arrest, the suspects were taken into police custody, while the investigation has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Yaba.
The Command said investigators are working to establish the full scope of the alleged operation and identify other individuals believed to be involved, including suspects who are currently at large.
The police also commended the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army for its support and cooperation during the operation, noting that the collaboration contributed to the successful arrests and recovery.
Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the Command’s determination to protect critical infrastructure and ensure that those involved in vandalism are brought to justice.
He appealed to residents to remain vigilant and provide the police with timely and credible information about suspicious activities in their communities.
The Command said the suspects will remain in custody as investigations continue, with efforts ongoing to track down other alleged members of the syndicate.
