Lagos State University (LASU) has condemned an alleged assault involving one of its students, clarifying that the incident took place at a privately owned hostel outside the university’s premises.

in a statement signed by the Deputy Registrar and Coordinator of its Centre for Information and Public Relations, Oluwayemisi A. Thomas-Onashile.
LASU said the incident, which has attracted attention following a trending video involving a parent and a student, involved students of the university’s College of Medicine (LASUCOM) in Ikeja.
According to the institution, the incident did not occur within the university campus but at a privately operated hostel located outside its premises.
The university said the student who was allegedly assaulted reported the matter to the police, adding that law enforcement authorities had since taken appropriate action.
It also disclosed that its management had commenced disciplinary proceedings in accordance with the university’s rules and regulations.
LASU strongly condemned the alleged act of violence, stressing that assault, intimidation and harassment involving students, staff or visitors would not be tolerated, whether such incidents occur within or outside the university premises.
The institution reiterated its commitment to producing graduates who excel academically while maintaining high standards of character and discipline.
It urged students to conduct themselves responsibly, avoid situations that could expose them to danger and report concerns promptly to the appropriate authorities.
The university also called on parents to work constructively with the institution, respect its boundaries and encourage their children to uphold discipline and integrity.
LASU reaffirmed its commitment to the safety, welfare and academic success of its students, assuring that it would continue to promote a secure and conducive environment for learning.
