Gusau was reportedly accompanied by members of the NFF Executive Committee, who also announced their decision to leave office, according to the Super Eagles news account on X, @SSE_NGA.
The development comes amid growing concerns over Nigeria’s recent football setbacks. The Super Falcons recently suffered a historic blow after losing 2-1 to South Africa in the play-off, ending their hopes of featuring at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time in the country’s history.
Before that, the Falcons had exited the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in the quarter-finals following a defeat to Cameroon. The Super Eagles also failed to secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The NFF has equally been under pressure over its management of a ₦17 billion Federal Government intervention fund released in 2024. A separate fact-finding committee had also raised allegations that some NFF officials and board members interfered in national team selections for financial benefits.
Gusau’s resignation comes just weeks before the NFF elective congress scheduled to take place on September 27 in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
