The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has completed its participation in the Specialized Training on Counter-Terrorism Investigations Train-the-Trainer Programme, held in Rabat, Kingdom of Morocco, from July 13 to 31, 2026.
The international training was organised by the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) under its Global Counter-Terrorism Investigations Programme in partnership with Al Akhawayn University. It brought together law enforcement officers from Nigeria, Kenya and Burkina Faso to strengthen collaboration and enhance professional capacity in addressing terrorism, violent extremism and transnational crime.
A 10-member delegation from the Nigeria Police Force, led by ACP Favour Fadawa of the Nigeria Police Academy, participated in the intensive programme, which focused on improving investigative skills and promoting intelligence-led counter-terrorism operations.
The training also equipped participants with strategies for identifying terrorist networks, dismantling criminal organisations, preserving legally admissible evidence and ensuring accountability in line with the rule of law.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, NPM, psc(+), said effective counter-terrorism investigations remain a critical component of both national and global security. He expressed confidence that the knowledge and expertise gained during the programme would further strengthen the operational capacity of the Nigeria Police Force in tackling emerging security threats and sophisticated transnational criminal networks.
The IGP also directed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Training and Development, DIG Isyaku Mohammed, PhD, FCNA, and the Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy to ensure the immediate integration of the training outcomes into the Force’s capacity-building programmes. He further disclosed that the accreditation and commencement process for the proposed Executive Master’s Programme at the Nigeria Police Academy has reached an advanced stage, while commending the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism and its partners for organising the initiative.
The Nigeria Police Force expressed appreciation to the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism, Al Akhawayn University, the participating countries, and the Government and people of the Kingdom of Morocco for their support and hospitality throughout the programme.
The Force reaffirmed its commitment to building a modern, intelligence-driven and professionally competent police institution capable of combating terrorism and transnational crime, protecting communities and contributing to regional and global peace.
