The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has launched a full investigation into the death of the Founder and General Overseer of Power in the Word of God for the World Ministries, Oron, Pastor Etetim Udo, who was found dead inside his church premises.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday in Uyo that the incident was reported to the police on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at about 8:18 a.m.
According to the statement, a resident alerted the police after arriving at the church, where he usually parks his motorcycle, and noticed an unusual gathering. He was later informed by the deceased’s children that their father had been found dead.
Police operatives immediately responded to the report and secured the scene. Investigators documented the location, took photographs and recovered relevant items to support forensic analysis and the ongoing investigation.
The cleric’s body was evacuated to a hospital, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor before being deposited at the mortuary for an autopsy.
The police said preliminary findings suggest the death may have resulted from suicide, but emphasised that investigations are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances and determine whether any other factors were involved.
Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Azare, assured the public that the investigation would be thorough, transparent and professionally handled.
He appealed to anyone with credible information that could assist investigators to come forward, while also urging members of the public to avoid spreading unverified claims or speculating about the incident, as doing so could hinder the investigation and create unnecessary public concern.
