At least six Nigerian soldiers have reportedly been killed after suspected Boko Haram insurgents attacked a military position in Bitta, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attack was said to have taken place on Thursday evening when the insurgents launched an assault on troops stationed in the area.
Security sources said the gunmen engaged the soldiers in a fierce exchange of gunfire, resulting in casualties among the troops. Preliminary reports indicate that six soldiers lost their lives during the attack, although the exact number of casualties has yet to be officially confirmed.
Military authorities had not released a statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report, while the full circumstances surrounding the attack remained unclear.
It was also not immediately known whether the troops repelled the attackers or if any of the insurgents were killed during the confrontation.
