Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have secured another significant victory in the ongoing counter-insurgency campaign following the surrender of a senior Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) finance operative in Borno State.
The Nigerian Army disclosed the development in a statement issued late Saturday by the Acting Military Information Officer, Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni.
According to the statement, the terrorist surrendered to troops of the 3 Battalion under the 24 Task Force Brigade at about 6:45 a.m. on July 25, 2026, along the Ladari–Jegarawa–Tunokalia corridor on the Gamboru–Wulgo Main Supply Route in Borno State.
Captain Goni described the development as another major operational success resulting from sustained military offensives and intelligence-driven operations against terrorist hideouts across the North-East.
He explained that preliminary investigations identified the surrendered suspect as the chief finance operative of the ISWAP enclave in Jubillaram, where he oversaw the group’s financial transactions and logistics.
The suspect surrendered alongside two male children.
Military authorities said items recovered from him include an AK-47 rifle, four magazines, 101 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a motorcycle and ₦40,000 in cash.
The Army noted that the suspect is currently undergoing detailed profiling and interrogation to obtain intelligence that could aid ongoing operations and assist in tracking down other terrorist elements operating within the theatre.
Captain Goni said the surrender followed a series of coordinated ground and air assaults by Operation Hadin Kai, which have continued to weaken terrorist strongholds and force insurgents to abandon their camps.
He revealed that the latest development comes as about 46 terrorists and their family members have voluntarily surrendered to troops in recent days, describing the trend as evidence of growing pressure on insurgent groups.
According to him, the surrender of a high-ranking finance operative represents a major blow to ISWAP’s operational structure, as it further weakens the group’s command, logistics and financial network.
He added that the increasing number of defections reflects growing disillusionment among terrorist fighters and signals the gradual collapse of their support structures.
The Army reaffirmed that Operation Hadin Kai remains committed to restoring lasting peace, security and stability across the North-East.
It also appealed to remaining insurgents to embrace the Federal Government’s non-kinetic initiatives by laying down their arms, while urging members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely information to strengthen ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
