The crash occurred at about 2:56 p.m. on Monday, September 7, near Alesi Village in Ikom Local Government Area.
Ise, who was attached to the Mfum Border in Etung Local Government Area, reportedly lost control of his vehicle while trying to avoid a pothole.
The vehicle veered off the highway and plunged into the bush before hitting a tree.
Residents who witnessed the accident reportedly rescued the Customs officer and rushed him to Holy Family Hospital, Ikom, for medical attention.
However, a doctor at the facility later pronounced him dead. His remains were subsequently deposited at the hospital
mortuary.
The Cross River State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Tuesday by its spokesperson, ASP Sunday Eitokpah.
The command expressed condolences to the deceased’s family, colleagues and the Nigeria Customs Service.
It also advised motorists using the highway to exercise caution, avoid excessive speed and pay close attention to road conditions to prevent similar tragedies.
Ise was serving at the Mfum Border, a key border point near Nigeria’s frontier with Cameroon, before his death.
