This was disclosed in a statement issued by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, on Sunday, September 6, 2026.
According to the statement, the arrests were made in Kubwa, Wuye and the National Mosque area as part of efforts to protect critical public infrastructure across the capital.
The Command said the first incident occurred on September 2 when a police patrol team from Kubwa Division, during a routine patrol around Bazango-Kubwa, reportedly sighted five suspects allegedly vandalising armoured cables.
The suspects were identified as Goodname Oriarebun, 29; Timothy Donald, 28; Ayo Buli, 26; Emmanuel Elijah, 28; and Christian David, 28.
In a separate operation, officers from Wuye Division arrested Moses Luka, who was allegedly caught digging out armoured cables along the road between Magic Land and the National Stadium.
Meanwhile, a surveillance team from Wuse Division apprehended four other suspects around the National Mosque area after they allegedly cut down a solar-powered street light in an attempt to remove its components.
The suspects were identified as Musa Abdullahi, Suleiman Idris, Aliyu Isa and Muhammed Abdulrahman.
The Police said investigations were ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the alleged vandalism syndicates, including those suspected of receiving stolen public infrastructure.
The suspects remain in police custody and will be prosecuted after investigations are concluded.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, commended the officers involved for their vigilance and prompt response in protecting public infrastructure.
The Command also urged residents to remain alert and report suspicious activities or persons to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines.
