The Independent National Electoral Commission has cautioned Nigerians against a fraudulent website falsely claiming that the commission has commenced a fresh nationwide online voter registration exercise.

INEC, in a public advisory issued on Saturday, identified the fake platform as pvc-inecnigeria-org.blogspot.com, which claims that a new registration window will run from September 28 to October 27, 2026.

The commission said the website was not authorised by it and warned Nigerians against accessing the platform or providing any personal information through it.

According to INEC, submitting personal details on the fraudulent website could expose users to identity theft, data harvesting and other forms of cybercrime.

“Members of the public are strongly advised not to click on the link or submit any personal information on the website, as doing so may expose them to the risk of having their sensitive personal data harvested or misused,” the commission said.

INEC clarified that the nationwide voter registration exercise ended on July 26, 2026, dismissing claims that a new online registration window is currently open.

“The commission further wishes to clarify that the voter registration exercise closed on July 26, 2026. Any information suggesting that a new nationwide online voter registration exercise is currently ongoing through the above-mentioned website is false,” it stated.

The fake platform reportedly presents itself as the “Final Phase of Nationwide Online Voter Card Registration” and claims to offer services including updating voter information, transferring polling units and replacing lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards.

It also falsely advertises voter registration and PVC delivery as free services.

The electoral body urged Nigerians to exercise caution and obtain information on voter registration and other electoral activities only through INEC’s recognised communication channels.

The warning comes amid increasing concerns over fraudulent online platforms seeking to obtain sensitive personal information from members of the public.
