The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspects over the killing of a popular social media political commentator, Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu, in the Gaida area of Kumbotso Local Government Area of the state.
Dan Shagamu was reportedly attacked at his residence after suspected hoodlums allegedly forced their way into his home and stabbed him.
The victim was subsequently rushed to the Murtala Muhammad Specialists Hospital for medical attention, where he was confirmed dead.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Kano State Police Command on Thursday, which said two suspects had been taken into custody in connection with the incident.
The command said investigations were ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing and determine the roles played by the suspects and other individuals believed to have been involved.
The police added that efforts were also underway to apprehend other accomplices linked to the attack.
Dan Shagamu, who operated under the name Dan-Shagamu International, was known for producing social media content on political, religious and community issues.
His death had earlier been reported after he was allegedly killed at his residence in Kano.
Amnesty International Nigeria also confirmed the incident, stating that the commentator was found in a pool of blood at his home.
The organisation urged the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the killing and ensure that anyone found responsible is prosecuted.
