A 40-year-old Chief Park Ranger with the Old Oyo National Park, Ajeiigbe Jacob, has been found dead in a forest in Tede, Oyo State, four days after he was declared missing.
Jacob’s body was discovered in the Iyanla area of Tede, where he was found suspended from a tree with a rope. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, although authorities are investigating the possibility of suicide.
The discovery was reportedly made on Friday, August 21, 2026, after a forest ranger, Babatunde Abdulrasheed, alerted the Tede Police Division.
Abdulrasheed reportedly arrived at the police station around 8:00 a.m. and informed officers that the missing ranger had been located inside the forest.
Following the report, police operatives led by the Divisional Crime Officer of the Tede Division moved to the scene to examine the circumstances surrounding the death.
Investigators reportedly documented the scene with photographs before recovering Jacob’s remains from the tree.
Police have since commenced an investigation to determine what happened to the ranger between the time he disappeared and when his body was found.
Authorities are also working to establish why Jacob went into the forest and whether his death was a case of suicide or involved other circumstances.
The deceased’s family has reportedly requested the release of his remains for burial after the initial police assessment was completed.
The police have not provided details about Jacob’s personal circumstances or any possible reason that could have led to his death.
