The Nigeria Police Force has concluded a five-day election security management training programme for officers as part of efforts to prepare 10,000 personnel for election-related duties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The training, organised in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF), ended on Thursday, October 29, 2026, following the completion of its first phase, which covered 18 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
This was revealed in a statement issued on Monday, November 2, by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, who said the initiative was aimed at strengthening the capacity of police personnel to effectively manage security during elections.
According to the statement, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, had, at the commencement of the programme, charged officers assigned to election duties to uphold neutrality, professionalism and accountability while protecting voters, electoral officials and the electoral process.
The training featured sessions on election security management, electoral laws, strategic communication, intelligence-led operations, threat assessment and the statutory responsibilities of the police.
It also focused on the importance of operating within the law, maintaining impartiality and strengthening collaboration among security agencies in preparation for future electoral assignments.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, the course representative expressed appreciation to the IGP and the Nigeria Police Trust Fund for providing the training opportunity, while commending the facilitators for their professional contributions and practical guidance.
He assured the police leadership that participants would apply the knowledge acquired in their respective commands and formations to protect voters’ rights and safeguard the credibility of the electoral process.
The participants also pledged to share the knowledge gained with other officers to promote consistency and professionalism in election security operations.
The Force reiterated its commitment to continuous capacity development, intelligence-driven planning and inter-agency collaboration to ensure a peaceful and secure environment for Nigerians to exercise their democratic rights.
