The incident occurred on Monday, September 7, 2026, with the Command receiving a distress call at about 7:45 p.m., according to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh.
Following the report, a police team led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, ACP Edward Akaniyene, and the Area Commander, Metro, ACP Georgelyn Ufomadu, was immediately dispatched to the scene.
The police team joined emergency personnel from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Federal Fire Service, Security Service Department, Federal Capital Territory Administration and other relevant agencies in the ongoing operation.
Preliminary findings indicated that the affected structure had previously been marked and sealed by the Department of Development Control in Abuja.
The Command said no casualty had been confirmed as of the time of its statement. However, emergency responders are continuing to search through the debris to determine whether anyone is trapped beneath the rubble.
Police authorities said investigations have also commenced to establish the circumstances surrounding the collapse and determine its possible cause.
The FCT Police Command appealed to residents to remain calm, stay away from the affected location and cooperate with emergency personnel to ensure that the rescue operation is carried out safely and effectively.
Residents were also urged to report emergencies or suspicious activities to the Command through 08032003913 or 08061581938.
The Command said further information on the incident and the extent of damage would be released as the situation develops.
