The rescue operation involved personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, military, Department of State Services (DSS) and other security formations.
The Kogi State Police Command said the victims were freed following sustained intelligence-led efforts to locate the abducted persons and disrupt the activities of criminal groups operating in the area.
The command, however, disclosed that security operations were still underway as personnel continued their search for other victims believed to remain in captivity.
Security forces are also intensifying efforts to track down and arrest those responsible for the abduction.
The Commissioner of Police commended the personnel involved, describing their performance as courageous, professional and determined.
He also praised residents of the affected communities for providing security agencies with timely and useful information, stressing that community cooperation remains vital to the success of ongoing operations.
The command called on residents to remain calm and vigilant, urging them to report suspicious persons, movements or activities that could aid the security operation.
It assured the public that all available operational resources were being deployed to secure the release of the remaining victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The police said additional information would be made available as the operation progresses and circumstances permit.
The latest development follows an earlier statement by the Kogi Police Command that 11 people, including an unspecified number of NYSC members, had been rescued after gunmen attacked vehicles along the Aloma–Egane Expressway.
The attack occurred at about 4:40 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26, around Ogene Zaria, close to the Ogene Zaria–Onicha-Igo Junction.
According to the police, the attackers emerged from the surrounding bush and blocked two buses travelling in opposite directions before abducting some passengers.
Several others reportedly managed to escape by fleeing into the nearby bush.
