The victims were identified as 11-year-old twins, Joshua and Jacob Jonah, and their five-year-old sister, Blessing Jonah.
The children reportedly accompanied their father, Samuel Jonah, to the farm on Friday. They were said to have left for home before their father, but did not arrive.
Their disappearance prompted family members, neighbours and other residents to organise a search for them.
The search ended in tragedy on Saturday when the siblings’ bodies were found close to the bank of a small river within the farm.
The incident has left the family devastated, with sympathisers gathering at the parents’ residence in the Oke Ogba area of Akure to offer condolences.
Confirming the incident on Sunday, the Ondo State Police Command said it had commenced an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the children had gone to the farm with their father before disappearing on their way home.
He said a search operation was launched immediately after the children were reported missing, leading to the recovery of their remains the following day.
According to the police, the bodies have been released to the family for burial, while investigators continue efforts to determine the exact cause of death.
Jimoh expressed sympathy to
the bereaved family and advised parents and guardians to keep a close watch on children, particularly when they are near rivers, ponds and other potentially dangerous water bodies.
