President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerian youths to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and actively participate in the 2027 general elections, stressing that the outcome of the exercise would have significant implications for their future.

The President made the appeal on Saturday while addressing supporters at the Rainbow Coalition presidential campaign rally held at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Tinubu said the forthcoming election should be viewed as an opportunity for young Nigerians to influence the direction of the country rather than a contest centred on his personal political ambition.

Addressing the youths, he said their participation in the electoral process was crucial, urging those who had yet to collect their PVCs to do so ahead of the polls.

He described the voter card as an important instrument through which citizens could determine their political leadership, appealing to eligible voters not to neglect their civic responsibility.

The President also identified economic growth and development as essential tools for tackling poverty, maintaining that his administration was taking steps to improve living conditions and ensure a wider distribution of national prosperity.

Tinubu said his government was addressing outstanding pension and gratuity obligations inherited from previous administrations, adding that substantial payments were being made to retired workers across different professions.

He cited retired engineers, welders and teachers among those benefiting from the ongoing payments, saying the initiative was part of efforts to ensure that more Nigerian families shared in the country’s economic progress.

The President also expressed appreciation to residents of Rivers State for their support and warm reception during the rally.

The event was organised by the Rainbow Coalition, a political alliance led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to mobilise support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

The coalition comprises politicians and supporters drawn from different political parties, including the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party.

It had previously endorsed Tinubu for re-election and presented its preferred candidates for various elective positions in Rivers State.
