This was revealed in a statement issued on Thursday by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Yusuf Adamu Aliyu, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin.
According to the statement, the arrests followed separate operations by the command’s Violent Crimes Response Unit, carried out with support from local vigilantes and based on credible information from members of the public.
In the first operation, conducted on September 8, 2026, operatives intercepted a green Golf 3 Wagon along the Katarko-Goneri road as it approached Damaturu.
The police said one of the occupants, identified as Khalid, fled from the vehicle after sighting the security personnel, while the driver, 30-year-old Ali Usman of Potiskum, was arrested.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of four rolls of high-voltage electrical cables suspected to have been vandalised and stolen.
Preliminary investigation, according to the command, showed that Usman was allegedly hired by the fleeing suspect to transport the cables from a bush around Goneri to Damaturu.
The police said efforts were ongoing to apprehend Khalid and establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged theft.
In a separate operation on September 10, operatives raided a residence in the Nayinawa Kwanan Kwadayi area of Damaturu following a report about the suspected harbouring of drug users.
The operation led to the arrest
of 11 suspects, comprising 10 males and one female, who were allegedly found using substances suspected to be Indian hemp and methamphetamine, popularly known as “Ice”.
The recovered substances have been secured as exhibits, while the suspects will be charged before a competent court after the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police commended the officers involved for their vigilance and prompt response to information supplied by members of the public.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating criminal activities, drug-related offences and the vandalism of critical infrastructure across Yobe State.
The CP also urged residents to continue providing the police with timely and credible information to assist security agencies in preventing and tackling crime.
