YORUBA UNION URGES NIGERIANS TO VOTE OUT TINUBU IN 2027, CITES HARDSHIP, INSECURITY

The Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Ìgbìnmó Májékóbájé Ilé-Yorùbá (Yoruba Union), has called on Nigerians to vote President Bola Tinubu out of office in the 2027 general elections, alleging that his administration has failed to tackle the country’s worsening economic hardship and insecurity.

The group made the call in a statement issued on Sunday and signed by its Convener, Olusola Badero, and released through its Home Director, Princess Balogun.

According to the organisation, millions of Nigerians are grappling with rising poverty, hunger and insecurity, while the Federal Government continues to insist that its economic reforms are yielding positive results.

“The country is truly bleeding, but Tinubu neither wants to see the realities nor listen to the cries of Nigerians,” the statement said.

The group urged Nigerians to use the 2027 polls to elect leaders capable of addressing the nation’s economic and security challenges, arguing that the current administration has not met the expectations of many citizens.

Yoruba Union also aligned itself with concerns recently raised by the Archbishop Emeritus of the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, and other Catholic bishops over the rising cost of living and growing insecurity across the country.

It claimed that many Nigerians have been pushed into poverty under the present administration, while kidnappings and violent attacks continue in several parts of the country.

“Our people have become beggars under Tinubu’s watch while hundreds of innocent citizens remain in the hands of Fulani terrorists waiting for ransom payments. The cost of living has become unbearable, yet the President does not want to listen to Nigerians,” the group alleged.

The organisation further cited the security situation in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, claiming that many women and children abducted in recent months remain in captivity, while numerous residents have lost their lives in violent attacks.

It also argued that worsening economic conditions have driven some Nigerians into criminal activities as they struggle to survive.

“Many people have resorted to different forms of criminality because of the economic situation in the country, yet Tinubu insists that the economy is doing fine,” it stated.

The group further alleged that the President and members of his family are shielded from the realities facing ordinary Nigerians because of the privileges attached to public office.

“Since Tinubu and his family enjoy taxpayers’ money, travel abroad, eat well and have access to every luxury they desire, they will never believe that millions of Nigerians are wallowing in poverty.

“They will never understand that hunger is killing people daily or that many Nigerians have died simply because they could not afford to buy medicines needed to treat themselves,” the statement added.

Yoruba Union also criticised the government’s handling of insecurity, alleging that attacks, kidnappings and killings have continued despite official assurances that the situation is improving.

“Tinubu has institutionalised insecurity. Military generals are being killed and kidnapped, students are abducted and murdered, yet the government behaves as though nothing has happened,” it alleged.

The organisation further accused security agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force, of being used to suppress critics instead of protecting citizens.

It also expressed concern over the experiences of Nigerians in the diaspora who returned home to invest, alleging that many have faced intimidation, multiple taxation and destruction of their investments.

Calling for political change, the group urged Nigerians to unite behind credible leaders committed to restoring accountability, improving security and rebuilding public confidence in governance.

“It is time for Nigerians to wake up from their slumber, unite and support credible leaders who can hold corrupt politicians accountable, recover Nigeria’s lost glory and restore the country’s dignity both in Africa and on the global stage,” the statement added.
