The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has called for increased government support in addressing operational challenges, improving personnel welfare and upgrading infrastructure within the Nigeria Police Force.
Disu made the call on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, during a courtesy visit to the Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, where discussions centred on strengthening institutional cooperation and improving the Force’s capacity to tackle security challenges.
This was revealed in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, on Wednesday.
During the meeting, the IGP acknowledged the Ministry’s continued support but stressed the need for further intervention in police infrastructure, accommodation and funding to improve operational efficiency.
He also raised concerns over the welfare of serving and retired police personnel, particularly pension-related challenges, and called for sustained engagement to ensure lasting solutions.
Disu also briefed the Minister on the Force’s preparations for the 2027 general elections, highlighting ongoing training programmes and measures to strengthen security arrangements for persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.
In his remarks, Gaidam reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting the Nigeria Police Force, particularly in its operational development and reform initiatives.
He emphasised the importance of intelligence-led policing and highlighted government interventions aimed at improving police infrastructure, personnel welfare, pension administration and insurance arrangements.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Anuma Ogbonnaya Nlia, welcomed the IGP and his delegation, assuring them of the Ministry’s continued administrative support.
He noted that closer collaboration between the Ministry and the Police Force would help address institutional challenges, enhance service delivery and improve public confidence in policing.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to strengthening its partnership with the Ministry of Police Affairs to improve operational capacity, promote personnel welfare and ensure the safety of lives and property across the country.
