The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 48-year-old man, Anaebo Emeka Hilary, following the discovery of a suspected illegal factory allegedly involved in the production of adulterated alcoholic beverages in Yafin, Badagry.
The suspect was arrested after police operatives, acting on information from members of the public, raided the facility and uncovered materials believed to have been used for the production and packaging of the drinks.
According to a statement issued by the command on Thursday, the operation led to the recovery of suspected adulterated alcoholic beverages, empty bottles, wine labels and assorted production equipment.
The police subsequently sealed the premises and transferred the recovered items to the station for further examination and investigation.
Hilary, who was apprehended at the scene, remains in police custody as detectives work to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged operation of the facility.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai, commended the officers involved in the operation for acting on the information and maintaining vigilance.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven operations aimed at identifying and disrupting criminal activities across Lagos State.
The commissioner also encouraged residents to continue providing security agencies with credible and timely information that could assist in preventing crime and supporting ongoing investigations.
The police said the investigation would determine the extent of the alleged activities and other persons who may be connected to the suspected illegal production operation.
