The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old man, Ibrahim Augustine, for killing his 21-year-old friend, Haggai Markus, following a dispute over roasted meat in Mubi North Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred around 8pm on November 4, 2026, at Mararaban Vimtim, where the two friends had an argument over roasted meat taken from a butcher's table.
The police spokesperson, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, saying the disagreement escalated when Augustine stabbed Markus in the chest with a knife.
Nguroje said the police received a report of the incident around 8:45pm from the victim's father, Markus Gabo.
He explained that officers attached to the Mubi North Divisional Police Headquarters immediately visited the scene, where they found the victim lying lifeless in a pool of blood.
The police recovered a sharp knife used in the attack and arrested the suspect.
According to the statement, the victim's body was taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Mubi, where a doctor confirmed him dead.
The police spokesperson added that the suspect and the case file would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, condoled with the deceased's family and assured them that justice would be served.
He also urged residents to resolve disputes peacefully and report disagreements to the police instead of resorting to violence.
