The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, has forecast cloudy weather, rainfall and thunderstorms across different parts of Nigeria from Sunday through Tuesday.
In its latest weather outlook released in Abuja, the agency said the northern states would experience generally sunny conditions with pockets of cloud, alongside chances of early morning thunderstorms and light rainfall in some areas.
For Sunday, NiMet expects light rain in parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Kaduna, Borno, Taraba and Adamawa states. More thunderstorms, accompanied by moderate rainfall, are expected across several northern areas later in the afternoon or evening.
In the North Central, sunny weather with patches of cloud is expected, with early morning thunderstorms and light rain possible in parts of Kwara, Niger, Kogi and the Federal Capital Territory. Moderate thunderstorms are also expected across much of the region later in the day.
The agency also predicted cloudy conditions in the southern states on Sunday, with morning rainfall likely in parts of Oyo, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River and Akwa Ibom.
By afternoon and evening, moderate rainfall is expected across parts of Ondo, Ekiti, Osun, Imo, Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Delta, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.
MONDAY FORECAST
NiMet said Monday would bring sunny skies with patches of cloud across the northern region. Parts of Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara may experience morning thunderstorms and moderate rainfall.
Later in the day, thunderstorms with moderate rain are expected in parts of Yobe, Jigawa, Borno, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba and Adamawa.
Across the North Central, cloudy weather with intervals of sunshine is expected, while morning thunderstorms and moderate rainfall are possible in parts of Niger, Kwara, Nasarawa and the FCT.
The South is expected to remain largely cloudy, with light rain likely across much of the South-West in the morning. Moderate rainfall is expected across the South-East and South-South later in the day.
TUESDAY FORECAST
For Tuesday, NiMet forecasts mostly sunny conditions with some cloud patches across the North during the morning hours.
Thunderstorms and moderate rainfall are expected later in the day across parts of Katsina, Kano, Kebbi, Kaduna and other areas of the North-East.
The North Central region is expected to have sunny weather with patches of cloud in the morning, followed by thunderstorms and moderate rainfall during the afternoon and evening.
In the South, cloudy conditions are expected, with morning rainfall likely in parts of Akwa Ibom and Cross River. Moderate rain is expected across the region later in the day.
NiMet warned that strong winds could occur ahead of thunderstorms in affected areas.
The agency advised residents to secure loose objects, avoid driving during heavy rainfall and disconnect electrical appliances from power sources during thunderstorms.
It also urged people to keep away from tall trees to reduce the risk of injuries from falling branches.
Airline operators were advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet to support safe flight planning, while members of the public were encouraged to follow official weather updates.
