The closure, which begins on Monday, September 7, 2026, affects schools that have already resumed for the new academic session.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang issued the directive after suspected cases were identified in several parts of the state, including Jos North, Wase, Jos South and Bassa Local Government Areas.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap, the government said the decision was aimed at limiting the spread of the infectious disease and protecting pupils, students, teachers and other school workers.
School owners, administrators and teachers have been directed to comply with the order, while parents and guardians have been advised to keep their children and wards at home until further notice.
The state government urged residents and other stakeholders to cooperate with the preventive measures, describing the closure as a necessary step to protect public health and curb further transmission.
The government said it would provide updates on when schools would resume academic activities.
