The United States Mission in Saudi Arabia has issued a fresh security warning over attacks targeting major airports in Riyadh and Dammam, advising travellers to remain vigilant amid possible flight cancellations, airspace closures and other disruptions.
In a security alert dated October 11, 2026, and shared on its X handle on Monday, the mission said it was aware of additional attacks on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and a targeted strike on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam on Sunday.
The mission urged travellers to exercise extreme caution when using major airports across Saudi Arabia, warning that the security situation could affect flight schedules and airport operations.
It also advised American citizens to confirm their flight status directly with their airlines and the relevant airports, while preparing for possible cancellations and other travel difficulties.
The mission recommended that travellers explore alternative transportation options, including private vehicles, trains and buses, and verify schedules and availability with service providers before making arrangements.
It identified Saudi Arabia Railways, SAT Transportation and the Saudi Public Transport Company (SAPTCO) as possible alternatives.
The alert further outlined movement restrictions for US government personnel stationed in the country. According to the mission, employees must obtain special authorisation before travelling through King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and airports in Jeddah and Dammam.
US government personnel were also prohibited from travelling within 20 miles of the Yemeni border due to security concerns.
Additional authorisation was required for official travel to Jizan, Asir and Najran provinces, as well as the cities of Qatif, Yanbu and Taif.
Despite the heightened security situation, the mission assured American citizens that routine and emergency consular services remained available.
The latest advisory follows deadly attacks on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Saturday, October 10.
According to Saudi officials cited in earlier reports, the incident left 12 people dead and more than 300 others injured.
A subsequent attack on Sunday reportedly killed one person and wounded 11 others, Reuters reported.
The incidents have raised fresh security concerns, disrupted airport activities and prompted authorities to issue additional travel warnings and impose restrictions.
