The Imo State Police Command has presented 52 cheques valued at ₦26.43 million to families of police officers who lost their lives while serving in the state.
This was revealed in a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Imo State Command, DSP Okoye Henry, who said the cheques were presented by the Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu Rilwan.
The presentation, which took place at the Commissioner of Police’s office in Owerri, was carried out under the Nigeria Police Force’s Group Life Assurance and Group Personnel Accident Scheme.
The initiative is designed to provide financial assistance to families of police personnel who died in the line of duty.
While presenting the cheques, Bosso expressed condolences to the beneficiaries and acknowledged the sacrifices made by the deceased officers in the course of their service to the nation.
He assured the families that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to the welfare of its personnel and their dependants, particularly families of officers who paid the ultimate price in active service.
Among the beneficiaries were Mrs Okorie Felista, Mrs Gift Chidera Omini, Mrs Nwosu Stella Chidinma, Mrs Nkeiruka Okparada, Mrs Florence Offoegbu and Mrs Onyekwere Edith Ogochukwu, alongside other beneficiaries.
Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Mrs Stella Nwosu Chidinma expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police and the Imo State Commissioner of Police for the support, noting that the financial assistance would provide significant relief to the affected families.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to honouring the sacrifices of fallen officers and supporting their families through welfare programmes established by the Nigeria Police Force.
