The Village Head of Aujarawar Alkali in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State, Alhaji Ahmad Yakubu Ahmad, has been found dead days after he was abducted by suspected bandits.

Ahmad, popularly known as Ruwata, was reportedly taken away on the night of Thursday, September 17, 2026, after armed men invaded the community and abducted him.

His remains were later discovered in a shallow grave at Danladin Gezawa, sending shockwaves through the community and leaving residents in mourning.

Security analyst Bakatsine, who uses the X handle @DanKatsina50, reported that the traditional ruler’s body had been recovered following the abduction. He also said funeral prayers for the deceased were held at about 3pm on Wednesday.

A resident of the community confirmed the incident, although the Kano State Police Command had not officially commented on the reported killing as of the time of filing this report.

The traditional ruler’s abduction was initially reported on September 18, after Bakatsine disclosed that armed men had invaded Aujarawar Alkali during the night and taken the village head away.

The attack reportedly left residents frightened, with members of the community calling on security agencies to intensify efforts to locate the abducted traditional ruler and protect residents from further attacks.

However, the discovery of Ahmad’s body days later ended hopes of his safe return.

The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, including whether the abductors demanded ransom or whether any negotiations were initiated following his abduction.

No arrest had been publicly announced in connection with the incident as of the time of filing this report.

The incident has further heightened concerns over attacks on rural communities in parts of northern Nigeria, where traditional rulers and other community leaders have increasingly become vulnerable to abductions and other forms of violence.

Residents are now awaiting an official statement from the Kano State Government and security authorities on the circumstances surrounding the traditional ruler’s death and measures being taken to strengthen security in the area.
