In its weather outlook released in Abuja on Tuesday, the agency said different parts of the country should expect rainfall during the three-day period, with some areas facing the possibility of strong winds and flash floods.
For Wednesday, NiMet predicted cloudy conditions over the northern states, with morning thunderstorms and light rain expected in parts of Taraba and Kebbi.
Later in the day, moderate thunderstorms are expected across parts of Taraba, Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, Sokoto, Katsina, Zamfara, Jigawa, Kano and Kaduna states.
In the North-Central region, morning thunderstorms with light rain are expected over parts of Nasarawa, Niger, Benue and the Federal Capital Territory. The agency said most parts of the region could experience moderate rainfall in the afternoon or evening.
NiMet also forecast cloudy conditions across the southern states, with morning rainfall expected in parts of Lagos, Ondo, Ogun, Oyo, Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, Cross River, Abia, Imo, Ebonyi and Akwa Ibom. Moderate rains are expected over most parts of the region later in the day.
For Thursday, the agency predicted partly cloudy conditions over the North, with morning thunderstorms and light rain in parts of Jigawa, Kano, Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, Gombe and Kaduna.
Moderate thunderstorms are expected later in the day across Jigawa, Kano, Kaduna, Yobe, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa and Taraba states.
Across the North-Central, sunny conditions with patches of clouds are expected, while parts of the FCT, Nasarawa, Plateau, Niger and Benue could experience morning thunderstorms and light rain. NiMet said moderate rainfall would affect most parts of the region later in the day.
In the South, morning light rain is expected over parts of Ondo, Ogun, Abia, Imo, Enugu, Ebonyi, Lagos, Akwa Ibom and Cross River, with widespread rainfall anticipated later.
NiMet also identified parts of Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Akwa Ibom and Cross River as areas with an increased risk of flooding during the forecast period.
For Friday, the agency forecast partly cloudy conditions across the North, with morning thunderstorms and moderate rain likely in parts of Taraba and Adamawa.
By afternoon or evening, moderate thunderstorms are expected over Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, Gombe, Kano, Jigawa, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Adamawa and Taraba states.
In the North-Central, sunny skies with patches of clouds are expected, with morning thunderstorms and light rain possible in parts of the FCT, Benue, Kogi, Nasarawa and Niger states. Moderate rainfall is expected across most parts of the region later in the day.
The southern region is expected to remain cloudy, with moderate morning rainfall forecast in parts of Ondo, Ebonyi, Lagos, Ogun, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River. Most parts of the region are expected to experience moderate rainfall later in the day.
NiMet warned that thunderstorms in some areas could be accompanied by strong winds.
The agency advised residents to secure loose objects that could be blown away during storms and urged people in flood-prone areas to activate emergency response measures where necessary.
It also advised motorists to avoid driving during heavy rainfall, while residents were encouraged to disconnect electrical appliances during storms and keep away from tall trees to avoid injuries from falling branches.
Airline operators were advised to obtain airport-specific weather information from NiMet to support flight planning.
The agency further urged the public to remain alert and regularly monitor its weather updates throughout the forecast period.
