Otutochi Channel Uzoamaka Wigwe, daughter of the late Access Holdings Group Chief Executive Officer, Herbert Onyewumbua Wigwe, has approached the High Court of Justice of the British Virgin Islands (BVI) to obtain control of a company that owns her late parents’ luxury yacht.
The vessel, known as Chitochi, is reportedly the last remaining asset of Grosvenor Marine Ventures Ltd., a company jointly owned by Herbert Wigwe and his wife, Doreen Chizoba Wigwe, before their deaths.
Court documents indicated that the company was removed from the BVI Register of Companies and dissolved on November 5, 2024, after failing to pay its annual fees.
The court action was instituted by Otutochi and Uchechukwu Nwabueze Wigwe, identified in the filings as an intended administrator and cousin-in-law of the deceased couple. They are seeking legal authority to preserve the company’s shares and enable the eventual sale of the yacht.
Herbert Wigwe and his wife died on February 9, 2024, in a helicopter crash in the United States.
According to the court filings, the couple were domiciled in Nigeria at the time of their deaths and jointly owned all the issued shares in Grosvenor Marine Ventures Ltd. Both also served as directors of the company.
The company was incorporated in the British Virgin Islands on March 7, 2012, under registration number 1699812.
The documents described Chitochi as a luxury yacht whose value could decline without proper maintenance and insurance. They noted that the vessel’s upkeep comes with substantial expenses, raising concerns that delays in selling it could expose the estates to further financial losses.
The yacht is a 2016 Custom Line 108 model, measuring 33 metres in length. It is based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where American yacht brokers have listed it for sale.
